Archos FamilyPad 2 Android 13.3 InchTablet Launches

Today via Facebook Archos has announced the launch of their new Archos FamilyPad 2 Android tablet which comes fitted with a 13.3 inch screen supporting 10 point multi-touch input, and sports a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels.

The new Archos FamilyPad 2 comes supplied running Google’s Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system, and is powered by a Dual-core A9 processor clocked at 1.6GHz, supported by 1GB of RAM and Quad-core GPU Mali 400 MP4 graphics.

The  Archos FamilyPad 2 is fitted with 8GB of storage which can be expanded via the use of microSD cards up to a maximum of 64GB, and features a 2 megapixel front facing camera for video calling, together with a 2 megapixel rear facing for video and photographs. Archos explains:

iFixit releases tablet repairability list, Apple and Microsoft on the bottom

iFixit has been taking their tools to our devices for years. They are the authority on just how repairable a device is and they have released their recent “Tablet Repairability” list.

The Dell XPS 10 scored 9 out of 10 for its color-coded screws and labeled cables, while Apple and Microsoft are at the bottom. Every iPad from the second generation to now scored a 2, and the Surface Pro is the worst with a score of 1.

It turns out that excessive adhesive is behind the low scores, as well as the high probability of part breakage upon disassembly. So now you know which ones you can’t fix yourself. If you are a do it yourself type, you might want to avoid them.

Barnes & Noble wants to offer more tablets after bad quarter

There have been rumors that Barnes & Noble could be moving away from the Nook hardware, and when you look at the newest quarterly report from B&N, it is easy to see why. But no worries Nook lovers.

The company reported $2.2 billion in revenue, which marked an 8.8% decrease year-on-year. Digital sales were up almost 7%, however overall retail sales were down. The end result is a net loss of $6.1 million. Revenue from the Nook was down 26% compared to Q4 of 2011. Surprisingly though, the company doesn’t want to abandon the Nook. They are standing by it.

“The bigger brands have more resonance in that multi-function tablet market than we do. We obviously have to adjust and change. So when I say we have a commitment, we do, but we also have a commitment to change the model and how we’re approaching it.”

Asus Transformer Pad TF300 Android 4.2 Jelly Bean Update Released

Asus has announced that the Asus Transformer Pad TF300 Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update is being rolled out as an over the air update, the update is being rolled out to the device in the US.

ASUS is excited to announce Android 4.2 is now available in the US region for the ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T. Android 4.2 will be released to Transformer Pad owners via a free over the air update starting today in the United States and will be available in other regions during March. This new version of Android enhances performance and stability, improves the user experience with new features as well as providing multiple user account logins.

Asus have also said that the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update for the Asus Transformer Pad Tf300 will be rolled out to other regions throughout March.

Charcoal Black Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 Leaked

Samsung recently launched their new Android tablet, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0, when the device was announced we were told it would be available in white and now a photo has been leaked of a new charcoal black version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 features an 8 inch WXGA display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels and it will come with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, it also features Samsung’s S-Pen stylus.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 comes with dual cameras with a front facing 1.3 megapixel camera for video chat and a rear facing 5 megapixel camera for photos and video, plus 802.11 a/b/g/n WiFi, WiFi Direct, Bluetooth 4.0 and USB 2.0.

Other specifications on the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 include a 1.9GHz quad core A9 processor and 2GB of RAM, it will be available with a choice of either 16GB or 32GB of built in storage and it also features a microSD card slot which can take up to 64GB cards.

There are no details as yet on when the charcoal black version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 will be available, as soon as we get some more information we will let you guys know.

It would appear that the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 LTE Verizon release date will be the 7th of March, according to some information recently revealed, the tablet will apparently land in Verizon stores this Thursday.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 LTE features a 10.1 inch inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels and it is powered by a quad core 1.4GHz Exynos 4412 processor.

We heard back in January that the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 LTE would be headed to mobile carrier US cellular, the device is now available on US cellular and retails for $499.99 for the 16GB version of the tablet.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 LTE comes with VoLTE support and features a 10.1 inch inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels and it is powered by a quad core 1.4GHz Exynos 4412 processor.

Asus Fonepad To Launch In Europe This Month

Asus recently announced their new 7 inch Asus Fonepad tablet, and now it would appear that we have some details about the devices European availability, it will apparently go on sale in Europe this month, with Russia getting the device first.

According to a recent report the Asus Fonepad will launch in Russia this month and will retail for 265 Euros, we suspect that price includes taxes as Asus originally said the device would cost 219 Euros.

The Asus Fonepad features a 7 inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels and processing is in the form of an Intel Atom Z420 processor, and the device comes with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

Other specifications on the Asus Fonepad include dual cameras with a front facing 1.2 megapixel camera for video calls and a rear facing 3 megapixel camera for photos and video.

The Asus Fonepad features 3G voice and mobile data support and it comes with 1GB of RAM and a choice of either 8GB or 16GB of built in storage, there is also a microSD card slot for expansion.

There are no details as yet on exactly when the Asus Fonepad will be available here in the UK and the rest of Europe, as soon as we get some more information we will let you guys know.

Sony has released a couple of promotional adverts this week for its new Sony Xperia Tablet Z tablet, show a number of the tablets features in use.

Fujitsu Palm Reader Tablet Prototype Unveiled At CeBit

At CeBit this week Fujitsu have been demonstrating a new Fujitsu Palm reader tablet they have created which has an integrated palm reader for added security.

The new Fujitsu Palm Reader tablet has been showcased by Fujitsu at CeBit this week and provides a new form of security authentication we have not yet seen in a tablet device.

The Fujitsu palm reader tablet has been created as a proof of concept device, and even though it has been rumoured before this is the first time such a devices has been available to test and demo.

Fujitsu have equipped their Fujitsu palm reader tablet prototype with a 10 inch screen and palm reader on the right hand side in the image above. Although Fujitsu is already working on making the palm reader smaller enough to be built into the tablet itself.

Fujitsu have explained that the new Fujitsu palm reader tablets will start to roll out in Japan and will then be released in to Europe in June of this year. No information on pricing has been released as yet by Fujitsu, but as soon as information comes to light we will keep you updated as always.

At CeBit this week HKC has unveiled a new Surface Pro clone tablet they have created which is a copy of Microsoft’s latest Windows 8 Surface Pro tablet, with a few changes to keep the price lower.

The Surface Pro clone tablet is also equipped with a 2 megapixel front facing camera for video calling, together with a 5 megapixel rear facing for video and photographs.

Nexus 7 Dock Headed To The US In Two Weeks For $39.99

The last news we heard about Google’s Nexus 7 dock was that it would be available from the 10th of January, which is today, although now it would appear that you may have to wait slightly longer to get your hands on one.

According to the guys over at The Verge, the Google Nexus 7 dock will start shipping in the US some time in the next two weeks, and it will retail for $39.99.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Plus LTE Tablet Unveiled

A new Android tablet has been revealed which will soon be added to the Samsung range, in the form of the new Galaxy Tab 3 Plus with LTE connectivity.

The Galaxy Tab 3 Plus LTE will ship fitted with 10 inch screen sporting a resolution of 2,560 x 1,600 pixels and will be powered by a 1.7GHz Exynos 5 Dual processor.

Samsung’s new Galaxy Tab 3 Plus range has been revealed by a Bluetooth SIG filing and refers to the non LTE tablet with a Galaxy Tab 3 Plus GT-P8200 reference and the LTE equipped model with a GT-P8220 code.

Now that the new Galaxy Tab 3 Plus tablets have been listed on the Bluetooth SIG website you can expect to see the new Samsung Android tablet arriving in stores sooner rather than later. Unfortunately no information on pricing or worldwide availability has been released as yet, but as soon as information comes to light we will keep you updated as always.

Asus has launched another all in one PC, the Asus Transformer AiO P1801, although it is not just a PC it can also be transformed into a 18 inch Android tablet, and the device runs both Windows 8 and Android.

It comes with a dock which powers the Windows 8 PC part of the Asus Transformer AiO P1801, which features a choice of Intel Core i3, i5 and i7 processors, 4GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage, it also comes with an 18.4 inch full HD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

When the Asus Transformer AiO P1801 is removed from the dock, it is transformed into an Android tablet with 2GB of RAM, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, and a NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor, have a look at the video below.

Lava Mobile has this week added a new addition to their range of ETAB series Android tablets, in the form of the newly launched Lava E-Tab Connect 3G Android Tablet.

The newly launched Lava E-Tab Connect 3G tablet features a 7 inch WVGS resolution screen, and comes supplied running Google’s Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) operating system.

The Lava E-Tab Connect 3G Android tablet is powered by a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor supported by supported by 512MB of RAM, with 4Gb of internal storage available, with a SD card slot offering a possible additional 32GB of storage when required.

US mobile carrier Sprint has announced that they are releasing the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for the Sprint Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, and the update should be available for your device now.

The Sprint Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update is being release as an over the air update, Sprint have said that the update is being pushed out to devices over the next two weeks.

Dell XPS 18 All-In-One Windows 8 TabletDesktop Showcased At SXSW

At SXSW this week Dell has been showcasing it new Dell XPS 18 all-in-one system which is a massive 18 inch tablet device that can also be used as a desktop computer.

The Dell XPS 18 is fitted with a 18.4 inch screen sporting a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 and features a touchscreen display with 10-point touch input.

On the rear of the Dell XPS 18 is an integrated kickstand to easily transform the larger than life tablet into a desktop system, running Microsoft’s latest Windows 8 operating system.

The Dell XPS 18 will be powered by a choice of Intel’s Core i3, i5, and i7 processors and a base unit will be available with a Pentium 2117U processor for $899, with options for all processor to be supported by up to 8GB or RAM.

The new Dell XPS 18 tablet/desktop weighs in at 4.8lb, and has been designed to provide up to 5 hours of usage on a single battery charge, with storage available as either HDD or solid state disk (SSD).

Samsung Galaxy S4 To Feature Different Processors In US and Europe

We have been hearing a number of rumors about the Samsung Galaxy S4 over the last few weeks, yesterday we heard that the Samsung Galaxy S4 will come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 quad core processor.

We had previously heard that the Samsung Galaxy S4 would feature an 8 core Exynos 5 Octa processor, and now it would appear that the international version of the Galaxy S4 will feature the 8 core version and the US version will feature the Snapdragon 600 quad core processor.

This is something which we mentioned previously, as there have been numerous reports of both processors for the Samsung Galaxy S4, and the Snapdragon 600 processor even appeared in some benchmarks.

The US version of the Samsung Galaxy S4 is rumored to feature a 1.9GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor, where as the European version of the handset is expected to feature a 8 core Exynos 5 Octa processor with a clock speed of 1.8GHz.

Other specifications on the Samsung Galaxy S4 will remain the same for both the US and Europe, with a 4.99 inch full HD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and 2GB of RAM.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 will also come with a choice of 16GB, 32GB or 64GB of built in storage, plus a 13 megapixel camera, and the handset is also rumored to come with some interesting new features.

Some of the rumored features on the Galaxy S4 include, Samsung Orb, which is basically Samsung’s version of Android’s Photo Sphere for the Samsung Galaxy S4, the device is also rumored to come with new eye tracking technology.

We do not know very much about the new eye tracking technology on the Galaxy S4 as yet, what we do know is that it will come with features that are called Eye Scroll and Eye Pause, as these were discovered in some recent Samsung patent filings.

Another new rumored feature for the Samsung Galaxy S4 is touchless gestures, one way they could work is that if you want to answer an incoming call on your Galaxy S4 you would just lift the handset to your ear to answer the call, rather than  pressing a button first.

Samsung are holding their Samsung Unpacked event in New York on the 14th of March, where they will officially unveil the new Galaxy S4, and we are expecting the handset to launch worldwide in April, with a rumored launch date of some time between the 15th and 22nd of April.

Nintendo Wii Mini UK Price Will Be £80

Earlier in the week we heard that the Wii Mini UK price would be £103, this was after the device was listed on Amazon and some other retailers, the various companies have no changed their retail price of the device and the Nintendo Wii Mini UK price will now be $79.99.

The Nintendo Wii Mini will go on sale in the UK on the 22nd of March, the console is a stripped down version of the Wii, and it will be interesting to see if the device becomes popular.

The Wii Mini has had a number of features removed over the original version, there is no Internet connectivity as both WiFi and Ethernet are gone, the full version of the console retails for £40 more at £120.

Nintendo does have quite a large catalog of games for the Wii Mini of over 1,000, this could end up making the device quite popular, along with its £80 price tag.

After 40 hours of free mobile music, you will have to pay Pandora

I guess it had to happen eventually. After years of providing free streaming music over various platforms, Pandora has announced that it will start charging for the service. But don’t worry, the charge only kicks in after 40 hours of music has been streamed by a subscriber over all mobile devices. That’s not so bad.

After that, it will cost 99 cents for unlimited music for the remainder of the month. Pandora said it will alert users when they get close to the 40 hour mark. The change will affect less than 4% of Pandora subscribers, since, the average Pandora listener uses the app for 20 hours a month on all his or her mobile devices.

Per track royalty rates will rise 9% in 2013 for a total increase of 25% over the last three years. So that is the reason. Plus another 16% increase over the next two years.

Sistel Networks has unveiled a new device at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) exhibition this week in the form of the Chubby vWand Stylus which has been designed to provide users with the ability to add NFC support to your Bluetooth smartphone tablet which might not be NFC supported itself.

The new Chubby vWand Stylus combines both a capacitive stylus together with a Bluetooth compatible NFC adapter, which once paid with your smartphone tablet allows you to write data to other NFC devices.

The Chubby vWand Stylus is still under development and is currently targeting businesses including healthcare retail and logistics and so unfortunately as a consumer you won’t be able to link up your iPad or other non-NFC devices in the short term.

Microsoft Working On Windows Phone 7.8 Live Tile Bug Update

Microsoft recently released the Windows Phone 7.8 update for older Windows Phone 7.5 devices, and a number of users have reported some issues with the live tiles on their handset since the update.

Microsoft has now acknowledged the issue and have said that they are working on a fix for the problem, the news was announced on Twitter by Microsoft’s Joe Belfoire.

Tokyoflash Kisai X Watch

Tokyoflash have released their latest geeky timepiece, this one is called the Tokyoflash Kisai X, and as usual it takes a bit of brain power to work on what time it is on this geeky watch.

The Tokyoflash Kisai X watch originally a concept design which has now become a real product and it comes in a choice of black or stainless steel and also features either a red, green or blue LED display.

“Sharp lines of LED light shining through the dark pyramid lens appear to be a secret code. They are in fact regular numbers that present the digital time in an easy to read way. Inspired by cryptography, Kisai X features time, date, alarm and animation mode. Can you decode the time?”

Optimus G Pro Quick Cover Launched By LG

Owners of the Optimus G Pro smartphone might be interested to learn that LG has this week unveiled a new Quick Cover case which has been designed specifically for the Optimus G Pro.

The new LG Quick Cover case is fitted with magnets, in a similar way to Apple’s Smart covers and automatically turn the Optimus G Pro either on or off when its opened or closed.

The new LG Quick Cover case for the Optimus G Pro is available in black, blue, lime green, pink and white, together with a reflective cube pattern that available in either white or black finishes.

The  LG Quick Cover case also allows you to use NFC when fitted and will soon be arriving in South Korean stores for around $40 or 43,000 won for the plain case finishes and 39,000 won or $36 for the patterned finish cases. Unfortunately no information on pricing or worldwide availability has been released as yet by LG.

Zotac StreamBox Streams Mobile Devices To Your HDTV

Zotac has this week added a new addition to their range of mini PCs, in the form of the newly launched Zotac StreamBox, which acts as a streaming bridge for mobile devices.

The Zotac Streambox has been designed to provide users with a small device that can be plugged into a HDTV and stream content from a smartphone, tablet, desktop PC or laptop, directly to a larger screen.

The Zotac StreamBox measures just 4.2″ x 4.2″ x 1.5″ in size and is fitted with a low-power processor that uses less than 3 watts of power, and has been created to provide a bridge from your mobile devices to your HDTV rather than be a stand alone mini PC.

The Zotac StreamBox also supports DLNA and Miracast wireless protocols, allowing you to mirror the screen of your Android 4.2+ devices directly on to the larger screen. Specific details about the Zotac StreamBox hardware have yet to be released and no information on pricing or availability as yet, but as soon as information comes to light we will keep you updated as always.

Patriot Aero Wireless Storage And Media Hub Launches

Patriot has this week added a new addition to their range of mobile storage devices, in the form of the newly launched Patriot Aero wireless storage which can also be used as a portable media hub.

The new Patriot Aero wireless storage hard drive has been designed to allow 5 users with smartphones or tablets to simultaneously stream high definition content from the device.

The new Patriot Aero wireless storage device is available in either a 500GB for $159 or 1TB for $199, and are both equipped with a rechargeable battery capable of providing up to 6 hours of constant use on a single charge.

The Patriot Aero wireless storage also comes with its own companion application called Patriot Connect, which is available to download from the Google Play Store & Amazon Store for Android devices and the Apple App Store for iOS devices. But also supports third-party media player applications as well if you would prefer. Mike Kroll, Sr. Director of Product Management at Patriot explains:

Roku 3 Media Streamer With New User Interface Launches for $99 (video)

Roku has this week launched its latest media streamer in the form of the Roku 3, which will arrive in stores during next month and will be priced at $99.

The new Roku 3 media streamer will also include a new user interface, which will also be rolled out as an update to older Roku boxes such as the Roku HD, Roku LT, Roku 2 and Roku Streaming Stick. Watch the video after the jump to see it in action.

The new Roku 3 media streamer is equipped with a more powerful processor than previous versions and is capable of streaming 1080p via its HDMI port.

The Roku 3 is also fitted with dual band wireless connectivity and comes with a new remote control and curvy re-designed outer casing, with over 750 channels to choose from including service such as Netflix and BBC iPlayer.

Raspberry Pi Camera Modules To Launch In April

Last month the Raspberry PI foundation announced that they would be launching a new Raspberry Pi camera modules, and now they have released some more details about this camera accessory for the Raspberry Pi.

The Raspberry PI foundation has said that they have sent of the first camera boards for the Raspberry Pi camera modules to be manufactured and that they are expecting to start selling these new Raspberry Pi camera modules some time in April.

We’ve sent the first camera boards to production, and we’re expecting to be able to start selling them some time in April. And we’ve now got several pre-production cameras in the office that we’re testing and tweaking and tuning so the software will be absolutely tickety-boo when you come to buy one.

They are also giving away 10 Raspberry Pi camera modules as they are looking for people to test them out, and see how these new camera modules perform, you can find out more information over at the Raspberry Pi Foundation.

Portable Rechargeable Smartphone Projector Offers Ultimate Portability

If you are looking for a portable pocket sized smartphone projector, a new creation from Sanwa Direct might be worth more investigation.

The 400-PRJ018 mini Smartphone projector by Sanwa Direct is battery powered and capable of projecting an image of 854×480 pixel resolution, with manual focus, offering a 16:9 aspect ratio at 85 Lumen of brightness.

Trakdot Luggage Tracker up for Pre-Order

If you travel a lot and want to keep an eye on where your luggage is, you may recall the Trakdot luggage tracker we talked about back in January. When the device was announced one of the important things that we didn’t know was exactly when it would be available to purchase. The manufacturer of the bag tracking technology has now announced that it is up for pre-order.

Shipping for the Trakdot luggage tracker is expected to happen in late June and the MSRP for the device is $49.99. It uses cellular signals to triangulate the location of your bag rather than GPS technology. The Trakdot luggage tracker will automatically turn itself on and off at the appropriate time during the flight and text you the location of your bag when you land.

People who pre-order the Trakdot luggage tracker by April 27 won’t have to pay the $8.99 activation fee. The annual service for the tracking device costs $12.99. The Trakdot can be pre-ordered directly from the manufacturer right now.

TiVo Mini DVR Extender Now Available For $99

Any TiVo fans who have been patiently waiting for the arrival of the new TiVo Mini DVR extender will be pleased to learn, that TiVo has now started shipping their new TiVo Mini for $99.99.

The TiVo Mini has been designed to provide users with the ability of watching live TV, recorded shows and web entertainment via another TV in your house, using your already installed TiVo Premiere 4 or Premiere XL4/Elite DVR.

Unfortunately at the moment wireless networks are not supported by the new TiVo Mini DVR extender. Tivo explains a little more

Giayee Android TV Box Launches With RK3066 Dual Core A9 CPU

Giayee the Chinese manufacturer has this week launched their new Giayee Android TV Box, which is  styled along similar lines to Google Nexus Q set-top box which was unveiled back in June of last year.

The Giayee Android TV Box is equipped with a Rockchip RK3066 ARM Cortex-A9 dual-core processor, supported by 1GB of RAM

Graphics on the Giayee Android TV Box are processed by an ARM Mali 400 quad-core graphics chip and the devices is also equipped with 802.11n WiFi, and comes supplied with an infrared receiver for the remote control.

The Giayee Android TV Box is also fitted with 8GB of internal memory and has 2 x USB ports, microSD card slot and Ethernet port, and comes running Google’s latest Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system.
